Nigerians condemn alleged purchase of N40b SUVs for Akpabio, other lawmakers
The Senate and House of Representatives will purchase over N40 billion worth of 2023 Model SUVs for lawmakers in the Red and Green Chambers of the National Assembly, a report by The Sun has indicated.
The report added that no fewer than 107 units of the 2023 model of the Toyota Landcruiser and 358 units of the 2023 model of Toyota Prado would be procured for the use of members of the Senate and the House of Representatives respectively.
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abass; Deputy President of the Senate, Jibrin Barau; and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, will be giving plusher bulletproof SUVs, the report said.
Already, the Senate President, Akpabio, had, during the week, constituted the Committee on Senate Services, headed by Kogi West senator, Sunday Karimi to work with the management of the National Assembly for the purchase of the vehicles.
The report says the least amount for a 2023 model of Toyota Land Cruiser which the lawmakers will use, goes for between N125 million and N135 million per unit.
The report of the SUV purchase is coming at a time the Federal Government plans to give N8,000 monthly for six months to poor Nigerians.
