Nigerian, Udodi Onwuzurike , wins 200 meters gold , sets new record.

In continuation of the brilliant performance of the Nigerian contingent at the World Athletics Under 20 Championship currently going on in Nairobi, Kenya.

Nigerian athlete, Udodi Onwuzurike, has won another gold medal in men’s 200 meters event after returning a time of 20.21 seconds and setting a new world record at the event in the process.

The talented Nigerian beat his African compatriot, Letsile Tebogo of Bostwana , who had earlier won 100 meters at the world championship to the second position. It was a clean sweep for Africa, as South African Sinesipho Dambile, returned a time of 20.48 seconds to win the bronze medal in the event.

This takes the Nigerian team’s medals at the championship to 3 gold medals and 2 bronze medals and they are now third on the medal log. Nigeria had earlier won gold medals in the 4×400 mixed relay race and women 400 meters event.

Kenya leads the way with a total of 9 medals , 5 gold medals , 1 silver medal and 3 bronze medals, in second position is Finland , with 3 gold medals and 1 silver medal. A total of 29 countries are on the medal table and the championship is expected to end today Sunday, August 22, 2021.
