A Nigerian based in India, Ofen Michael, who goes with the alias, John Nero, has been arrested allegedly for stealing two SUVs in a car shop, along with his alleged Libyan accomplice, Saifi Edden Guma
The two men were said to have stolen the vehicle at about 4:30 am from a Kia showroom at Kogilu Cross, Bengaluru, India.
The Nigerian, aged 25, and the Libyan, aged 27, were said to have entered India on a student visa, but dropped out midway into their education.
The police deputy commissioner, K. Baba said the two men were arrested after a complaint of the theft was lodged.
The police boss said the suspects were arrested with the help of CCTV footage and GPS fixed in the SUVs.
He said: “They were addicted to alcohol and narcotics. They started committing offences to arrange money to lead a lavish life,” Baba said.
“They stole a Toyota Fortuner from a service centre in Yelahanka and three two-wheelers from KG Halli and Sampigehalli areas. They used to sell the vehicles to foreign nationals, especially from African countries, staying in the city. They sold the SUVs for Rs 5-6 lakh each. They have also been booked for overstaying in India.”
