The burial rite of President Mohammadu Buhari’s chief of staff, Abba Kyari, violated all the major safety rules to curtail the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The burial, which took place at the Gudu cemetery in Abuja, attracted large crowd of mourners, although many of them wore face masks.

Experts have warned that even with face masks, the virus can still be spread, hence the need to observe the rule of social distancing.

Kyari’s corpse was also airlifted from Lagos to Abuja for burial in contravention of well-established procedure in epidemiology which recommends private burial for persons who die from such a contagious infection.

But Kyari’s burial was attended by large crowd, including journalists.

Kyari’s death was announced by the presidency in the early hours of today, April 18 from Coronavirus. He is believed to have died in Lagos on Friday.
