A first-class biology graduate from Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University in Katsina State, Sham’unu Ishaq, who was seen in a recent viral video hawking sachet water to survive unemployment, has gotten a job offer from the Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda.
According to a post by Bashir Ahmad, a former special assistant to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari on social media, the Governor offered immediate employment to Sham’unu Ishaq after learning about the young man’s travail.
The post reads: “Fantastic news from Katsina State! Gov. Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, has offered immediate employment to Sham’unu Ishaq, a first-class graduate of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University whose video selling pure water to support his family recently went viral on social media. Sham’unu Ishaq graduated with First Class honours in BSc (Ed.) Education/Biology during the 2021/2022 academic session and recently completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program in Taraba State.”
Bashir quoted the Governor as saying that “Academic excellence should be celebrated, not relegated to the streets.”
He said the Head of Service has been directed to facilitate Ishaq’s immediate employment.
Recall that a video of Ishaq has gone viral showing him hawking sachet water because he was unable to find employment.
A notification of results posted by Ishaq in the video shows he graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Education) Biology.
“I graduated and had no job and I started hawking pure water sachets for survival,” Ishaq explained in the video clip, describing the challenging reality of life in Katsina.
“Here in Katsina, there is nowhere to even do something to improve my life.”
Ishaq shared how the daily income from selling sachet water barely covers his basic needs.
“The selling of the sachet water business is not even enough. Sometimes the only thing I do with the money is to eat from it; I can’t save anything,” he said.
