The Nigeria Olympians Association (NOA) has expressed grief over the death of Nigerian boxing sensation, Jeremiah Okorodudu.

Secretary General of the association,

Emmanuel Babayaro (OLY) in a statement said, “In great shock, sober awakening, and a deep sense of mourning, the Nigeria Olympians family wails over the death of one of its own, an icon, champion, and great fighter on all fronts, Nigeria’s most flamboyant boxer, Jeremiah Okorodudu.

“The Nigeria Olympians family has been dealt an indelible blow; so painful as it is regrettable.

“Okorodudu as he was fondly called lived and died for Nigeria; his pride and fatherland. A member of the 1984 Olympics boxing team, Okorodudu shined so bright with his great boxing artistry and flamboyance to match that the world had to notice the great boxing prodigy from Nigeria.

“The regrettable death of our great icon and champion ignites a rude awakening to the harsh realities of the Nigerian athlete and life after sports.”

President of the Nigerian Olympians Association, Olumide Oyedeji (OLY) while in deep shock, directed a 48hrs mourning and condolences only across all Olympians platforms in honor of our Olympian icon and boxing legend.

The President also directed his administrative council to scale up the life-after sports projects of the NOA on all fronts as a matter of urgent priority.

“The Nigeria Olympians Association deeply condoles with the immediate family of our great icon and colleague, his death though very regrettable and irreparable, the NOA shares in your grief and will always be with you in prayers and support.

“The NOA President, Olumide Oyedeji (OLY) in his message had said thus, ‘Our big brother, icon, and champion Jerry Okorodudu have come, seen, conquered, done his bit and returned to God as we must all someday day but the onus is now on us while we are still here to make that vow today as Olympians and in honor of Jerry Okorodudu and all our fallen heroes, that the labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain.”
