Captain of Nigeria Customs Basketball team, Nkem Akaraiwe said that the team will play tough in their game with KPA of Kenya in the inaugural edition of the FIBA Africa Women’s Basketball League, (AWBL)

The Border Girls’, who began their campaign at the FIBA AWBL in Egypt with a 57-46 victory over their Cameroonian opponents, University de Douala, will confront KPA on Wednesday.

The leading player for the Border Girls’ with 20 points and 19 rebounds in the first game said they would improve on their performance against KPA.

Akaraiwe noted that the tournament affords her the opportunity to explore her potentials against more experienced and exposed players.

“I see the team as a very young team. I know it was our first game. We were a bit scrappy but we will get going from there even though it was a bit difficult to start, but we still got our ourselves together and play.

“I have seen now that the referees want the game to just flow and not to keep stopping the game. We just have to play tough and stay out of house.

“It’s important for me because for quite some time, I’ve not competed in this level before. It’s been a long time I played in this platform before.

“After the last one I played in 2018 and going to Spain in 2020. So, it’s another chance and platform to test myself in this kind of tournament, play with more experienced and exposed players to test your level. I feel happy and excited because I know I have more task ahead
