Fiona Onasanya, a former Labour Member of Parliament, who was jailed for perverting the cause of Justice, has appealed to her constituents to allow her to keep her job.

In a video message, 35-year-old Onasanya protested her innocence and pleaded with her Peterborough constituents to let her stay as she faces a recall this Wednesday.

“Would you accept the verdict knowing in your heart of hearts you are innocent?, Onasanya said.

“I am telling you, I am innocent and I will continue to pursue avenues to clear my name.

“If you wish for me to continue as your independent Member of Parliament, I am willing and able to do so. The choice is in your hands.”

Polls indicate that 81 per cent of voters want her recalled. Should 10 per cent voters vote against in the Wednesday recall vote, Onasanya stands to lose her seat as an MP.

Jurors heard that she colluded with her brother Festus after her car was clocked speeding at 41mph in a 30mph zone in her constituency just weeks after she was elected.

But she’s always maintained that she’s innocent – and even compared herself to Jesus.

She also claimed in the video that she hadn’t been given a fair chance in her trial because of media spin.

“All of this time, I have not been able to share my side,” she claimed.
