Civil servants in Niger State on Monday February 3, 2020 embarked on an indefinite strike under the directive of the organized labour in the state.
The action is coming after the expiration of the 21-day ultimatum the labour gave to the state government.
The directive was contained in a statement signed by the state Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Yakubu Garba, and the Chairman of Trade Union Congress, Comrade Tanimu Yunusa in Minna.
According to the union, the strike would be comprehensive and would linger until Niger State government addressed all lingering issues.
The issues raised are the immediate implementation of thirty thousand naira (N30,000) National Minimum Wage, its consequential adjustment in addition to accrued arrears to all category of workers in both the state and local government areas.
Others are demonstration of clear commitment to pension policy and administration, the recuperating of funds allegedly embezzled by previous administration and resumption for 2019 payment of all outstanding annual leave grants.
The union then urged its members to remain at home and await further directive from the organised labour, even as they remain law-abiding.
