Women in Niger State have kicked against the list of commissioner-nominees submitted by the state Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, to the House of Assembly for screening.
The member representing Gurara Constituency in the Niger State House of Assembly, Binta Mamman, made the disclosure.
She said that if the remaining names being expected did not have women to compensate for the first list, the women in state would protest.
Mamman, after the plenary in Minna, said that out of 17 positions, only two were given to the women of the state.
She said that the action of Governor Bello was against his promise of making his administration women-friendly.
The lawmaker pointed out: “The women are not happy with the list as it is not good enough. Yesterday, we read out the names of commissioner -nominees as sent by the state governor. The list was not encouraging. The government promised us that they would be women friendly, that they were going to bring more women on board and yet, what we saw was only two women out of 17.
“I am waiting to see the three names, I hope the three names will be women. If we do not see women, honestly, we are going to stand up against the list.”
Mamman also called for more women participation into the political system, who are often used during campaigns, elections and rejected when it comes to political appointments.
Decrying the plight of women in Nigerian politics, she urged all Governors to replicate what President Buhari had done by putting more women on board to encourage them.
