Niger State chapter of the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has described last Saturday’s election of Mr. Uche Secondus as the new national chairman of the party as the beginning of a new dawn for the party.
It further said that the emergence of Secondus was the leeway into the exit of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and the reign of hunger and hardship in the past two years.
The party made the commendation in a congratulatory message to the new national officers, signed by the state Chairman, Alhaji Tanko Beji.
“The successful election and the emergence of Secondus mark end of imposition and impunity in the party.
“PDP in Niger State is congratulating Uche Secondus and other national officers elected to pilot the affairs of the party. We are confident that the national chairmanship of the PDP would bring about progress and unity for the party.
“There is no doubt that your overwhelming victory with 2, 000 votes out of 2, 396 total number of delegates at the convention is a testimony to your acceptability by majority of the delegates present at the convention and the PDP members at home and in the Diaspora,” he stated.
Beji further said that Secondus victory was also an endorsement of his leadership capabilities and the belief that he possesses all that it takes to move the party to greater heights.
Beji, who, however, advised the new national chairman and his cabinet to be wary of enemies of the party, while pledging the support and loyalty of PDP members in Niger State.
Beji expressed optimisms that the PDP was bouncing back stronger, stressing, “We congratulate all the newly elected national officers. We are however urging the new PDP leadership to be wary of sycophants who could derail your plans for the party ahead of the coming elections.
“Now that the national convention is over, the new leadership should use the new spirit in the party to start preparations for the 2019 general election”.
