Niger State government has concluded plans to partner Islamic State of Iran to boost its agric sector, create more jobs and enhance internally generated revenue.
The new partnership is coming on the heels of an invitation of Governor Sani Bello by the Iranian government to explore areas of partnership between the two in the face of fallen global oil price.
Governor Bello spoke in Minna, Niger State capital, while hosting the Iranian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Mitres Zorch. The governor briefed the envoy on his administration’s commitments to explore the agric sector for the development of the state.
Bello said, “We are willing to partner with the people and government of Iran in developing our agriculture and the vast solid mineral deposits of the state. This will go a long way to improve our internally generated revenue”.
The envoy had earlier expressed the readiness of his home government, Iran, to partner with the state in agriculture business.
“Nigeria is a very important country to the Republic of Iran. We want to expand the relationship between our country and Nigeria, as well as with states in the country. We share same misfortune with global oil crisis and we have to plan a good cooperation for mutual relationship.
According to the Iranian ambassador, “It’s unfortunate that the reducing global crisis of oil has created problems for Nigeria and Iran, and it’s natural for many oil producing countries to pay much attention to diversifying their economy.”
