Niger govt to empower youths through Shea products’ processing

Abubakar Sani Bello, Niger State governor

Niger State Governor Abubarkar Sani Bello, has said that his administration would empower the youths through the state Shea Sector Development Programme (NSSSDP).

The initiative, which started with the training of 30 youths, who would in turn serve as inspectors, auditors and consultants would ensure proper certification and packaging of Shea products from the state to meet international market standards.

Shea products training, as planned, would open up rural areas to expand the value chain of Shea trees that abound therein.

This, the government said, was part of economic diversification to improve the revenue base of the state.

The Director General of Niger State Commodity and Export Promotions Agency, Hajiya Zainab Halilu, disclosed this at the commissioning of the Minna Technical Centre.

She said that the state would benefit immensely from the Shea sector development programme.

“The governor is not only happy that the revenue base of the state will improve through the Shea processing, but the number of employed graduates the product’s processing will encourage to process and export the finished products to other countries of the world,” she said.
