Niger governor, Bello, sacks SSG

Abubakar Bello, Niger governor

Governor Abubarkar Sani Bello of Niger State government has sacked the Secretary to State Government (SSG), Alhaji Shehu Danyaya, and replaced him with his Transition Committee Chairman, Mallam Ibrahim Isa Ladan.

No reason was given for the former SSG’s sack. Feelers however had it that Danyaya, who had served for barely a year now may have been eased out to balance political equations or possibly caught in cross-fire between power brokers within the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

The former SSG is said to have exhibited high-handedness, incompetence in handling official matters as the state government scribe and as well, not reaching out to politicians that worked for the enthronement of Governor Sani Bello’s led APC administration.

Others however attributed the termination of the former SSG’s appointment basically due to allegations of corruption.

Apart from the alleged mismanagement of welfare meant for the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) routed through his office, the former SSG is said to have been unable to account for certain monies that passed through his office.

Meanwhile, state Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Jonathan Vatsa, in a statement announced the appointment of a new SSG, who according to him, ‘has been inaugurated and resumed office immediately’. The new SSG, Mallam Ibrahim Isa Ladan from Borgu Local Government Area, according to the statement replaced, Alhaji Shehu Danyaya who is from Kontagora Local Government Area and a chieftain of the APC in the area. The statement made available to newsmen on Monday quoted Governor Sani Bello as thanking the former SSG for the services rendered so far and as well, wished him well in all his future endeavours. According to the statement, “The new SSG has since been inaugurated and resumed office immediately. The Governor thanked Shehu Danyaya for the services rendered and wished him well in his future endeavor”. Fifty-five year old Isa Ladan who is the former APC Senatorial aspirant for Niger-North Senatorial district and also a former Commissioner representing Niger State in the Federal Character Commission. A turban councilor of Borgu Kingdom, Isa Ladan who is also a retired Banker and a hotelier had served on the Governor-elect’s Transition Committee set up by Governor Sani Bello to prepare ground for his administration’s inauguration on the 29th of May, last year.
