.Says we are better together than divided
The Governor of Niger State, Alhaji Abubarkar Sani Bello, has cautioned regional agitators on the need to avoid destroying what Nigeria’s founding fathers sacrificed their lives for but to build bridges of understanding for mutual benefits and sustainable development.
The governor also appealed to traditional rulers to enlighten their subjects on the need to be security conscious and to report any person or group that tries to incite people against other tribes in Niger State.
“No matter whatever differences we have as a people, hate speeches, name-calling and all forms of acrimony will not solve our problems. The solution lies on dialogue with the intent to knowing where and how we may have wronged one another, resolve such diffreces amicably and move on,” he said.
Bello spoke when he granted audience to the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Farouq Bahago, who led other traditional rulers within the Emirate on traditional sallah homage at Government House, Minna.
“Those who witnessed Nigerias’ civil war or any other war for that matter know that wars are like an ill wind that blow no one good”, the governor said, adding, “As a people, Nigerians can always resolve their differences without necessarily resorting to fanning ambers of war.
“The over 200 Nigerian ethnic nationalities have lived side-by-side one another over the years, respected individual group’s cultural values and their religious differences. Therefore, let us not allow the sacrifices made by our founding fathers for us to live as one people to be in vain.”
