Niger Delta University still shut after students protest against wearing school uniforms

The Bayelsa State-owned university, Niger Delta University (NDU), has not yet reopened following a dramatic policy by the University authorities to introduce school uniforms as a means of identifying the students.

The University says the unforms would help “curb cultism and other crimes in the institution.

The announcement of the school uniform policy has sparked protest by the students who feel they have been reduced to secondary school level where such is the norm.

One commentator on Twitter, @Loud_Silence sarcastically asked: “What time VC go come call for assembly.”

Since the announcement of the school uniform policy on Monday, July 5, academic activities in the school have been disrupted due to protest by students, forcing authorities to close the University indefinitely.
