Niger Delta activist, Tony Uranta, is dead

Prominent Niger Delta activist and Executive Secretary of United Niger Delta Energy Development Security Strategy (UNDEDSS), Tony Tamuni-Ipriye Uranta, is dead. He was 63.

Uranta, Executive Secretary of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), died after a protracted illness that left him partially paralysed.

Actress Regina Askia Williams confirmed Uranta’s death in a facebook post.

She wrote on her facebook page: “On your behalf, we announce the passage of Tony Uranta (TIU) at 1:32pm this afternoon.

“Tony has gone home to rest, after a long medical battle.

“He fought a good fight while here, but we believe God needs him now, to continue from the other side, and to perhaps conquer on his strong belief on Justice, Equity, Peace and Unity for Nigeria.

“Burial will be announced by family.”

Uranta was a member, Federal Government’s Technical Committee on Niger Delta.

He was also the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria National Summit Group (NNSG).

The deceased attended the University of Ibadan between 1972 and 1976.

He is survived by his wife Baarong Uranta, a sports analyst with Channels Television.
