The Majority Leader of the Niger State House of Assembly, Hon. Abba Bala Mohammed, and his Deputy, Hon. Binta Mamman, have been impeached.
The duo, who assumed office in July this year after the former occupants of the seats were removed, were impeached during the legislature’s last sitting before embarking on the Christmas and New Year vacation on Thursday over alleged negligence of duty.
During deliberations, however, the legislators decided to hold on the impeachment of the House Deputy Leader, Hon. Binta Mamman, because she was on isolation after testing positive for Coronavirus, while that of the majority leader, who is representing Borgu Constituency, stands.
The legislators lamented that the majority leader abandoned plenary at a time when important matters relating to the presentation of the Report of the 2021 budget were being discussed.
The motion for the impeachment of the House Majority Leader was moved by the member representing Bida 1 Constituency, Hon. Bako Kasim Alfa, and seconded by the member representing Wushishi, Hon. Mohammed Lokogoma.
The Thursday’s sitting was presided over by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Jibrin Baba Ndagi, representing Lavun State Constituency, while the Speaker, Hon. Bawa Wuse, is on quarantine after testing positive to coronavirus.
