Neighbours have caught a man identified as Ogeoma Ogbonna who allegedly beheaded his father Azubuike Ogbonna in Umuomei in Obingwa Council in Abia.

He reportedly beheaded his father and buried his head before neighbours were attracted to the incident.

The old man’s body was seen in a pool of his blood as sympathisers thronged the compound and expressed shock over what could have led Ogeoma to kill his father

Sources told Vanguard that Ogeoma had been showing signs of mental imbalance and was always threatening to harm people.

“Ogeoma has been showing signs of mental illness. He was always threatening to harm people. But nobody in this community knew that he would get to the extent of cutting off his father’s head,” a resident of community lamented.

“We are still in shock on how he could kill his father. Before neighbours were called in to see what happened, he had already buried the head in a shallow grave in the compound. He took people and showed them the grave.”

Abia Police Command Public Relations Officer Maureen Chinaka has not reacted to the incident.

Father collapses watching his children consumed in fire outbreak

In another family-related case, a man collapsed earlier in the week watching his two kids being burnt to death by a fire outbreak in their home, with their mother having locked them in to go off to buy something.

Neigbours heard the cries of the children but thought they were simply on to their usual thing.

The two kids, Jeila, 3, and Jersy, 5, both died as fire engulfed their apartment on Church Street, Oluwatuyi quarters, Akure in Ondo.

Their father, whose name could not be ascertained at press time, collapsed and was rushed to hospital.

It was learnt that the fire started around 3:30pm on Wednesday but help did not get to the children on time.

Neighbours said their mother locked them in the room when she went out to buy something.

Witnesses disclosed the fire had engulfed a large part of the apartment before they knew what was happening, besides the fact the location of the building was difficult for quick access to get to the children.

The burnt remains of the toddlers were found at the entrance of the apartment after the fire was put out.

A fellow tenant, who pleaded anonymity, said people mistook the children’s cries as the effect of normal routine beating from their mother.

Policemen from the B Division in Akure evacuated the corpses.
