The senator representing Borno South in the National Assembly, Ali Ndume, has been released from prison after spending five days in the Kuje prison for failing to produce Abdulrasheed Maina in court.

Maina is the former chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT) standing trial for allegedly embezzling billions of pension funds.

After Maina was granted bail, Ndume stood surety for him, but could not produce him in court as required by the bail bond.

The Federal High Court, Abuja, then committed Ndume to prison until he produces Maina.

Ndume had also staked N500 million in bail bond for Maina who simply disappeared, leaving his old friend to bear the brunt.

But on Friday, November 27, Justice Okon Abang, said Ndume had behaved well during the trial of his fugitive friend, hence he was granted bail.
