The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Monday February 26
charged a drug trafficker Mr Francis Suru before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos for allegedly being in possession of 2.1kg of Cannabis Sativa a.k.a Indian Hemp, a banned psychotropic substance.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is being prosecuted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on a two counts charge for alleged conspiracy and unlawful possession of narcotics.
When the charge was read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, Mrs N.J Mamza told the court that the defendant committed the offence in December 12, 2023, on Victoria Island, Lagos.
According to the charge filed by Mamza, the said offence contravened Sections 11(c) and 14(b) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Law of the Federation, 2004.
However, the court did not entertain the bail application filed by the defendant through his counsel. He is to be remanded in Nigerian Correctional Centre till next adjourned date for hearing of his bail application and trial.
Justice Isaac Dipeolu adjourned the case until March 6 for hearing of bail and commencement of trial.
