NDA attack: Air force officer arrested for aiding bandits

NDA attack was the first in the history of the highly fortified military garrison. It was clear the attackers were assisted by insiders.

A Nigerian Airforce officer has been arrested in connection with the attack on the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA, on August 24, 2021.

Two personnel were confirmed killed in the attack, by the public relations officer of the Academy, Major Bashir Jajira, who added that another officer was also abducted.

However, in the latest twist the authorities in a statement said: “On 08 Nov 21, at about 0600hr, NAF07/ 23922, SGT Torsobo Solomon of 153 BSG (AIRFORCE COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL YOLA) was arrested on the order of the Base Commander as requested by the NDA Commander for an offence connecting with arms and ammunition with recent NDA attack by bandits in Kaduna.”

According to the Daily Post, the NDA released Solomon’s photo and announced he is to be flown to the Army Training Regiment (ATR) in Kaduna.

The hit on the well-fortified military asset is considered one of the most audacious attacks against Nigeria’s Armed Forces in history.

The deadly assault on August 24, 2021, left two officers – Lieutenant Commander Wulah and Flight Lieutenant CM Okoronkwo – dead.

Second Lieutenant Onah sustained gunshot wounds. Major Christopher Datong was kidnapped and later released.

The non-state armed actors attacked the NDA campus in Afaka, Kaduna, around 1:30am.
