Some parts of Nigeria are currently experiencing total blackout after the nation’s national grid collapsed for the third time in one week.

The latest incident occurred early Saturday morning, with many states reporting total blackouts.

Data obtained data from the Nigerian System Operator’s portal (niggrid.org) revealed that the grid recorded zero megawatts (MW) as of 9.20am today.

The latest failure comes on the heels of two other collapses earlier in the week, further straining the already fragile power system.

While confirming Monday’s collapse via a statement, the Spokesperson of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), Emeka Ezeh, said the general system collapse occurred at 18.48 hours.

He went on to say that the development led to a loss of power supply across its franchise.

“The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) wishes to inform her esteemed customers of a general system collapse that occurred at 18:48 hours today, 14th October 2024. This has resulted in the loss of supply currently being experienced across the EEDC network” Ezeh said

At the time of reporting the latest collapse, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), responsible for managing the national grid, has yet to release a statement regarding the incident.
