NASS PDP candidates meet Atiku, commit to reducing poverty by 40% in 4 years, others

Candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the National Assembly have met with the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and made some commitments ahead of the presidential and National Assembly elections on February 25, 2023.

The candidates, who were led by Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Philip Aduda, met with Atiku on Sunday, February 19 at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.

Flanked by some of the PDP NASS candidates, Aduda told the press after the meeting that they all resolved to improve the lot of Nigerians in the area of transparency, cost of governance, security, poverty, education among others.

Aduda said, “Following the conclusion of a robust meeting between His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President of Nigeria and Presidential candidate of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party and the National Assembly candidates in the 25th February elections, today being Sunday, the 19th of February, 2023, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, we are jointly resolved to commit to the following agenda to advance the wellbeing of our people and the development of our great country.

“We commit to improving transparency and accountability across the whole government.

“We commit to the reduction of the cost of government through improving citizen oversight and a strong emphasis on curbing waste and cost reduction.

“We commit to reducing multidimensional poverty by 40% over the next 4 years and putting food on the tables of Nigerians again.

“We commit to reducing our unsustainable national debts.

“We commit to greater investment in education and infrastructure by incrementally increasing budgetary allocation starting from the next budget.

“We commit to quick passage of bills that devolve more powers to subnational governments.

“We commit to securing Nigerians through robust conflict resolution mechanisms and improved welfare and funding of security agencies.”
