A man, simply identified as Likita (Doctor) Abubakar, has been arrested by the Nasarawa State Police Command in the state.
It is not clear where the arrested man was taking the ammunition to at the time of filing this report.
There are, however, indications that the destination may be Jos, a border town to Nasarawa, where Fulani and other tribes in the state have been locked in blood violence.
According to Rahman Nansel, Nasarawa State police spokesperson, it is not yet confirmed if Jos was the destination of the ammunitiont, in an interview with People’s Gazette.
“We cannot confirm if he was travelling to Jos with the ammunition but he was arrested and investigation is ongoing on his destination, ” the online newspaper reported.
The police later issued a statement: “On 21/8/2021 at about 0900hrs, sequel to information received which indicated that a suspected criminal who has been on the wanted list of the Nasarawa State Police Command for offences ranging from Armed robbery to Kidnapping was sighted at Alushi Junction, Akwanga LGA, Nasarawa State, a detachment of Police operatives attached to Akwanga Division were immediately deployed to the area.
“Consequently, one Likita Abubakar ‘M’ 35 years was arrested; upon diligent and systematic search, 53 empty magazines, 260 rounds of live ammunition, one motorcycle and cash sum of #38,500 was recovered from him as exhibits.”
