Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule has alleged that his removal from office by the election tribunal in the state has a religious undertone.

He made the claim recently in Abuja while speaking at the 2023 Peace and Development Submit for Young University Students.

TheNiche had earlier reported that the Nasarawa Election Petitions Tribunal sacked Gov Sule and declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), David Ombugadu, as the winner of the governorship election which was held on March 18.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on March 20, declared the incumbent, who was the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the governorship election in the state after he purportedly garnered the highest number of votes during the polls.

The PDP gubernatorial candidate later appealed to the tribunal to nullify Sule’s victory, citing dissatisfaction with the outcome of the election.

While giving its verdict, the three-man panel, led by Justice Ezekiel Ajayi removed Sule and declared Ombugadu, as the winner of the election

However, speaking in a viral video sighted by DAILY POST, Gov Sule recalled that before the governorship election in Nasarawa, one Bishop Abioye of Living Faith had called on Christians to vote for Christians only.

He went on to claim that the statement contributed to his sack by the tribunal.

The governor further alleged that the judges hinged their judgement on religious sentiments, instead of the facts presented before them.

Sule said: “A lot of you must have read the tribunal ruling in our state when two of the judges, who are Christians, decided that a Christian won the election and one Muslim judge decided that it is the Muslim who won the election.”
