Embattled Nigerian Rapper and record label owner, Azeez Adeshina Fashola,  popularly known as Naira Marley has alleged his later former signee, Mohbad once attempted suicide.

He made the revelation on Wednesday, during the interview with activist, Reno Omokri, where he said the late singer wanted to take his life because of family issues, adding that he has a recorded conversation where he pleaded with Mohbad not to kill himself.

Mohbad died in Lagos on September 12 at the age of 27 and while the police have conducted a post mortem examination on his body and Nigerians now await the result, his demise has continued to generate controversies.

Speaking during the chat with Reno, Naira Marley explained that on one occasion, Mohbad’s girl called him to inform him that the late singer locked himself in a room and was about to take his own life.

He said, “There’s some other time when I was in America and his girl called me and said he locked himself in a toilet and wanted to kill himself and I called him and kind of recorded the conversation asking him ‘why do you want to kill yourself?

“If your family is stressing you out, just tell them to go.’ ‘You’re a king, chill and do whatever you wanna do. Don’t kill yourself.

“If you kill yourself now what do you want people to say? You just made a video not long ago saying if you die they should hold Naira Marley?

“He locked himself in a room and this was after he made the video that I wanted to kill him. So I was so concerned…”

Naira Marley also told Omikri that  Mohbad apologised to him after making a video alleging that he was after his life.

“Till today I don’t understand. I tried to get him help when he went out like that. I wasn’t even in the country when he made that video.

“I was out of the country. I’m sure it was during the NDLEA [arrest that he made the video]. Looking at the video again, I was getting information from everybody that was there because like I said, I wasn’t in the country.

“I kind of sent someone to the NDLEA before I got back. When I got back the next day, they said Mohbad was not there. They said Mohbad wasn’t among the people arrested.

“I didn’t bail Mohbad out anyway. It’s only Zino. So it was that paranoia…Zino was still in the NDLEA when he [Mohbad] made that video. I wasn’t around.

“I was outside Nigeria when he made that video saying if he dies they should hold Naira Marley and the Malians. So when I got back I asked him. When I got back, I met him.

“I spoke to trying to find out what was wrong but he said he didn’t understand and apologised. Yes. He apologised. I have a video on that.” he further said.
