My role model is Neuer, says Nwabali

Stanley Nwabali

Go Round FC first choice keeper, Stanley Nwabali, has revealed that his role model has been Germany and Bayern Munich goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer.

Nwabali told GoRoundFC.com.ng that he may not watch the League regularly but he spends his time watching the German champions every time they play in the UEFA Champions League.

“I have learned most things from him like the way he organizes his defence and how he goes up front to sweep.

“I also learned from my goalkeeper coach at the club that as a goalkeeper I cannot just remain between the sticks but should also make forays up front too to help the team.”

Nwabali started the season last year as third choice keeper after he returned from a loan spell at defunct Sharks FC but has fortuitously become number one at the club, doing well too.

“This is really the first time in my professional career that I am first choice keeper in a club and I thank God for it.

“I am first choice not because I am really the best but by chance. After I returned from Sharks where I went on loan, I was third choice to Iboro Akpakpan and Kelvin Salami but unfortunately Iboro passed on during the season I moved to second place.

“At the end of the season, Salami left the club so I started this year as first choice and I am really happy with my progress,” he said.

With the club in a difficult battle for promotion with Heartland, Delta Force, Crown FC and Bayelsa United, Nwabali believes Go Round FC will not just mount a challenge for the title but qualify to play in the top division next season.

“The club I see now is not the same as I saw last season. I am so sure we will get to the NPFL. We are all working hard and personally I just want to play with Go Round FC in the NPFL.”

The club currently lies 4th on the NNL table and have a road game in Umuahia against Abia Warriors on Saturday, July 29.
