My ordeal on  Apapa road, by Customs chief

Musa Jiibril

The Customs Area Controller of Apapa, Mr. Musa Jibril, has lamented the poor state of Apap roads.

He said that because of the bad roads and diversions due to ongoing repairs that he now treks to work as cars could not go through most of the places now under construction.

While welcoming members of the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) in his office, Jibril expressed the determination of his men to meet government’s expectations despite the harsh working condition of traveling through bad roads to work.

His words: “I have to trek before getting to my office. Today, I trekked from the Flour Mills close to ENL before the traffic eased up. This is what we go through but we are not deterred by the situation. It’s a temporary challenge we shall overcome”.

He expressed satisfaction and confidence with the pace of ongoing construction work, adding that it would eventually boost commercial activities and productivity within the port area when completed.

Jibril said that the command was bracing up with the demands of modernization in Customs operation as senior officers within the ranks of Deputy Comptrollers and Assistant Comptrollers are presently undergoing training in batches for Nigeria Customs Information System (NICIS) two platform.

The officers, according to him, are divided into three batches of morning, afternoon and evening sessions for the training  aimed at achieving seamless trade transaction, promoting transparency and preventing infractions in Customs operations.

He also promised partnering with the media to promote knowlegde based reporting and pursue accuracy, truth, objectivity and balance.

Ismail Aniemu, the AMJON President had thanked him for his support and contributions to national economic growth through effective material and manpower management of the port with the largest Customs formation in the country.
