Mutiat Kareem, breast cancer patient cries for help

Mrs. Mutiat Kareem, a 40-year-old cancer patient, who resides at Kooko, Ibiye Village, Atan in Ogun State, needs financial assistance.

The widow with 5 children said what eventually turned out to be a breast cancer started late last year with an irritating scratch on the left breast. She said when the itch stopped, a small, but painless boil developed on the spot. It continued to increase in size, though painless. But when a severe waist pain which extended to her legs set in, she was forced to visit the Ota General Hospital where her condition was diagnosed as cancer. A few days later, the affected breast ruptured, with no money for drugs or medical treatment.

This has already caused grave damage to some vital organs of her body including the spinal cord, rectum and bladder. Mrs. Kareem now passes urine and excretes without knowing it.

She thus requires urgent medical attention at the Teaching Hospital.

For Mrs. Kareem to survive her ordeal she must undergo a mastectomy and other operations in the coming weeks and it is estimated that she needs at least N8.8 million for medical treatment. This will include consultations, investigations, surgery, medications, continuity etc.
