Several passengers sustained injuries in a collision between two Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses on Tuesday night at the Pleasure area of Iyana Ipaja, Lagos State.
The accident occurred when a BRT bus heading towards Iyana Ipaja swerved to avoid hitting a commercial motorcyclist who was illegally using the BRT corridor. The bus collided with another BRT bus coming from the opposite direction.
Emergency responders from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) arrived at the scene after receiving distress calls around 11:39 p.m. The agency’s Dolphin Response Team from Igando Base was dispatched to the location.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by LASEMA spokesperson Nosa Okunbor, the injured passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment before the arrival of the agency’s response team. No fatalities were reported.
“Further investigations at the scene revealed that the BRT bus, in an attempt to avoid crushing a commercial motorcyclist with passengers illegally plying the BRT corridor, collided with an oncoming BRT bus,” Okunbor stated.
The agency also deployed two tow trucks to clear the damaged buses from the road, concluding recovery operations without further incident.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances leading to the collision.
