MTV Base took the decision after Ibadan radio station, Splash 105.5 FM had banned songs from Naira Marley

Popular British music channel, MTV Base has placed a ban on songs by Naira Marley following the death of his former signee, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba aka Mohbad.
TheNiche reported on Tuesday, September 12, that Mohbad died under controversial circumstances and was buried the following day in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
His death sparked outrage as many Nigerians took to social media and pointed accusing fingers at his former boss and owner of Marlian Records, Naira Marley, citing their ongoing feud.
On Friday, September 15, a petition campaign titled “ Ban Marlian Music’’ was initiated by popular blogger, Gistlover and it garnered over 126,574 signatures on the same day.

After this, some national radio stations placed a “Not to Be Broadcast” (NTTB) ban on all the music under the Marlian Music Label.
On Monday, September 18, a popular radio station in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, Splash 105.5 FM placed a ban on all songs from Naira Marley.
The radio station via a press release explained that their decision was taken due to the ongoing investigation into the death of Mohbad.
The statement read: “In view of the sensitive nature around the death of Mohbad and the criminal procedure the police have commenced, I will urge us all to exercise discretion.
“To this effect, Naira Marley’s songs have become NTBB (Not to be Broadcast) on our stations until further notice. This is with immediate effect,”
Joining the growing list of music outlets that have banned Marlian music, a staff member of the MTV music channel and popular TV host, Ehizojie Okoeguale, aka DadaBoy Ehiz, confirmed his media outlet has also banned songs by Naira Marley.
Making the announcement on Wednesday in a post shared on his X handle (formerly Twitter), Okoeguale tweeted: “MTVbase dropped everything Marlian. Kudos to dem.”
