Wolverhampton Wanderers won at Old Trafford in the English Premier League (EPL) for the first time since 1980, after Joao Moutinho struck the only goal 8 minutes from time.

The 1-0 victory by The Wanderers also ended Ralf Rangnick’s 5 matches unbeaten run in all competitions as interim Manchester United manager.

Phil Jones’s clearing header fell to the 35-year-old midfielder on the edge of the area and he kept his nerve to drive a shot through a packed penalty area and into the bottom corner

The home side were without the likes of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof,ff and Eric Bailly who were missing through injury and illness, leaving Manchester United short on numbers at the back.

Wolves needed the heroics of Jose Sa, who made a brilliant save in the fifth minute of stoppage time to deny United the share of the spoils.

The Portuguese goalkeeper turned away a curling free-kick from substitute Bruno Fernandes, who had earlier missed a sitter when he hit the woodwork.

The visitors controlled the opening half-hour but failed to capitalise on their possession around the United box, leaving manager Bruno Lage unable to comprehend how his side had not taken a lead into the break.

The defeat was a crushing blow for United who stayed in the 7th position, 4 points away from Arsenal in 4th, though they have played a game more.

In addition to that, Manchester United stand a staggering 22 points adrift of the defending champions and neighbour, Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Wolverhampton Wanderers, enhanced their fight for European places after beating The Red Devils, as they are now on 29 points and a place behind Manchester United.
