An elder statesman, Dr Ali Monguno, on Friday advised the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, to carry all Nigerians along irrespective of tribal, religious or political differences.
Monguno, a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri.
He said since Buhari was elected by Nigerians from all parts of the country, he must strive to enhance the unity of the nation by ensuring national spread in his programmes.
Monguno commended President Goodluck Jonathan for accepting defeat at the polls, saying that he had won the respect of Nigerians for that singular act.
He said that the peaceful conduct of the polls had enhanced the image of Nigeria globally as an emerging democratic giant.
“The peaceful conduct of the election has placed Nigeria among democratic countries of the world. Nigerians can now walk tall by raising their shoulders everywhere in the world,’’ Monguno said.
According to the elderly statesman, Nigerians can now proudly come out to say that they elect their leaders.
Monguno urged the citizens to pray for the peaceful conduct of the April 11 Governorship and state assemblies polls. (NAN)
