Senate President Godswill Akpabio has revealed that senators have been sent some money via their bank accounts to enable them to enjoy their holiday.

Akpabio stated this in a viral video seen on Wednesday before a motion of adjournment was moved at the end of the Senate’s ministerial screening.

“In order to enable all of us to enjoy our holidays, a token has been sent to our various accounts by the clerk of the national assembly,” he said.

Shortly after, Akpabio was alerted by some senators that the plenary session was live on television.

The Senate President then said he was withdrawing his statement.

“I withdraw that statement. In order to allow you to enjoy your holiday, the Senate President has sent prayers to your mailboxes to assist you to go on a safe journey and return,” he said.

On July 31, Akpabio said the salaries of members of the National Assembly were not enough to take care of demands from their constituents.

He stated this while contributing to the debate on a motion sponsored by Abdulraman Kawu Suleiman, member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) representing Kano South, on the need to avert impending strike planned by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
