Money for yam seedlings made me kill okada rider, farmer confesses

A farmer, Ayo Lawal, said he needed money to purchase yam seedlings, so he killed an okada rider in order to dispose off his bike. Those were the confessions he made to the Ekiti State Police Command on December 11, while being paraded before newsmen.

Lawal said he was not alone in perpetrating the dastardly act. He named some of his alleged accomplices; Jimoh Ojo, Sule Abdullahi and another unamend suspect.

Lawal said the okada rider they killed was Isaac, who conveyed them from Ikole to his farm at Odo Oro Ekiti.

He said they then hacked Isaac and buried him in a shallow grave.

Lawal said: “It was Abdullahi that said we should kill the deceased, so that he could go to Okenne, Kogi State and sell the motorbike, with the intention to use my own share to buy yam tubers for next year’s planting season,’’ he said.

Ekiti state police spokesman, Sunday Abutu, said two suspects were in custody and have confessed to the crime.

“Following a tip off, the Command’s operatives had, on 24th November, 2020 arrested Ayo Lawal and Jimoh Ojo and they had made confessional statements. We are assuring you that those, who are at large, will be arrested soon,” he said.
