Brighton winger, Kaoru Mitoma has given a surprise answer when asked to name the better player between Argentina captain, Lionel Messi and his Portuguese counterpart, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Mitoma recently sat down with ESPN for a rapid-fire question and answer session, where he was asked to join the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) footballing debate.

The Japanese international was asked to pick who he thinks is the better player between two football icons, Messi and Ronaldo.

Responding to the query, Mitoma was unable to choose between both Ballon d’Or winners, as he replied “Both.”

The 26-year-old was signed by Brighton from Japanese club, Kawasaki Frontale for a fee of £2.6 million in the summer of 2021.

He scored 10 goals and registered eight assists in 41 appearances across competitions for Brighton last season.

The talented striker has also started the 2023/2024 season well, managing three assists and a goal from five appearances for Brighton.

However, Mitoma and his teammates after trashing Manchester United 3-1 in front of their fans at Old Trafford last Saturday, followed it up with a 3-2 loss to AEK Athens in their Europa League’s opening fixture at home on Thursday.
