Nigeria’s Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa is currently facing a lot of backlash for accepting to be a member of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet, knowing she does not have a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate.

It all began when the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), raised an alarm that the minister, who was among the 45 Nigerians inaugurated on Monday after confirmation by the Senate does not possess a NYSC certificate.

In a statement on Wednesday, HURIWA claimed that the culture minister is a member of NYSC, whose place of primary assignment is a law firm in Abuja.

The rights group asked the management of the NYSC to compel Musawa to focus on her national youth service or the ministerial appointment.

The rights group went on to further allege that years back, she abandoned her NYSC programme in Ebonyi State but later showed interest in completing it.

After the allegation made the rounds on social media, the Management of NYSC on Thursday, confirmed the assertion, saying Musawa is a serving corps member.

Speaking with TheCable, The Director of Press and Public Relations at the NYSC headquarters, Eddy Megwa, said she is one of the corps members serving with the institution.

“Yes she is a serving corp member,” Megwa wrote in a message when he was contacted for enquiries.

The revelation later sent tongues wagging on social media, as many netizens slammed Musawa for not revealing her true status to Nigerians.

They also chastised the Senate and Department of State Services (SSS) for not conducting a thorough investigation on the new minister.
