The Governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade, is making good his threat to crush the #June12Protest in Cross River State.
The onslaught against the protesters started yesterday, June 10 when a leader of the protest, Agba Jalibgo, was arrested on what many believed to be false allegation of being a drug and arm dealer.
Jalingo had promised to march on Calabar despite the threat of the Governor. He argued that if politicians could be allowed to converge and have rallies, nothing stops young people to also demonstrate their displeasure on the style of governance in their country.
After making the promise to protest, Jalingo received an invitation from the State Police Commissioner, which he honoured. He never returned home.
This morning, police and military combat vehicles took over major roads in Calabar, blazing sirens in what appears to be an attempt to intimidate the protesters.
The Calabar protesters appear to have been immobilized by the overwhelming security agents patrolling the area.
