Messi was on the scoresheet for Argentina when they defeated Australia 2-0 in a friendly game played on Thursday

Argentina captain and former PSG striker, Lionel Messi has revealed why he is still playing for his country’s national team.
According to the 35-year-old, he is still an Argentina international because the team won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
He made this known while speaking after Argentina defeated Australia 2-0 in a friendly game on Thursday, at the Workers Stadium in Chaoyang District, Beijing, China.

Messi who was on the scoresheet alongside German Pezzella during the encounter, also said he would have stopped donning his country’s jersey had they lost the finals of the World Cup to France.
He said, as quoted by All About Argentina: “To be honest, if we hadn’t been the World Champions… I wouldn’t be in the national team anymore.”
La Albiceleste won the World Cup for the third time in their history with Messi absolutely dominating the tournament.
The former Barcelona star won the World Cup Golden Ball for the second time for his exploits and finished the tournament with seven goals and three assists.
