An aircraft in the fleet of Nigeria’s dominant airline, Air Peace, was rammed into on Saturday by an aircraft belonging to Max Air while taxing at the Benin Airport runway.

This is a serious set back for the owners of Air Peace in particular and for Nigerians who are desirous of travelling by air this season, as they may have one aircraft less to fly in.

The incident, according to Air Peace, occured while passengers were being boarded from the Benin Airport to Abuja.

According to available information, the incident occurred at about 2pm at the Benin Airport in Edo State on Saturday.

But Air Peace said there was no casualty.

A statement from the airline which was made available to TheNiche reads, “The management of Air Peace hereby notifies the general public that an incident occurred today around 14:00hrs at the Benin Airport, Edo State, when a taxing Max Air aircraft 5N-ADB rammed its right wing onto our parked aircraft, 5N-BUQ, which was boarding our Abuja bound passengers at the time the incident occurred.

“The hit damaged the left elevator of our aircraft thereby rendering the aircraft grounded and unserviceable.

“Passengers on-board the Air Peace were disembarked and another aircraft deployed to operate the flight.

“We sincerely apologise to all the passengers this situation would likely affect today for any inconvenience caused them, as a result.”
