It is very rare for an actor or actress to take as much break as Matilda Obaseki-Mozia did and still return to take up the role.
Matilda plays one of the key characters, Angela Dede, in one of Africa’s most popular weekday soap, Tinsel. She was an original cast on the series, but she seems to be one ‘extraordinary’ character who has taken most leave on the series.
Three years ago, few months after her engagement, she had to be relieved on the show by sexy Ghanaian actress, Leonora Okine. Matilda’s pregnant state was not part of her Angela character.
She gave birth to her first child, returned and slipped back into the Angela character effortlessly.
Last year, Matilda embarked on another maternity leave and was replaced by Theresa Edem, a graduate of Royal Arts Academy, Lagos. Although Theresa did her best to fill in for Matilda, it was not permanent for her.
The moment Matilda gave birth and returned again, even as her fans could not wait any longer to see her face on the Tinsel screen, she grabbed back her role.
A fan said, “Theresa tried, but if it is not Matilda, it can never be like Matilda. I am so glad she is back. I can now watch Tinsel again as usual.”
Need one ask if this is a testimony to the fact that Matilda is a professional and talented?
