Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Bello Masari, has received two repentant bandit leaders – Sale Turwa and Muhammed Sani Maidaji at the Government House in Katsina.
Katsina bandits are notorious in pillaging, raping and kidnapping residents of the state, and other neighbouring states.
The Katsina state police commissioner, Alhaji Sanusi Buba, and head of Civil Defence in the state, including the director of State Security Services (SSS) were present at the reception for the bandits.
The Commissioner of Police told Masari that it was the view and consensus of all the security chiefs in the state to request him “to accept the bandits’ remorse and forgive them, so as to serve as encouragement for others to follow suit.”
The governor responded by urging other bandits to repent, assuring them that they, their families and property would be adequately protected. Curiously, whatever property the bandits had, was likely looted from other law abiding citizens.
“Government is always ready to receive, forgive and rehabilitate repentant bandits as long as they surrender all arms and ammunition in their possession. But it is not up to us to romance with them.”
