Chelsea boss, Enzo Maresca, has said that the West London club did not give him an ultimatum to finish in top four of the English Premier League (EPL) this season.
Maresca, who was brought in from Leicester City to replace Mauricio Pochettino, who finished 6th in the EPL last season and subsequently missed out on a UEFA Champions League (UCL) place, made this known ahead of the Blues’ opener against Man City on Sunday.
According to him, he was recruited by Chelsea hierarchy to take charge of a “five-year” project.

Speaking ahead of his team’s fixture against the league champions, Maresca said: “What I can say is that nobody from the club asked me for the Champions League this year.
“Nobody said to me ‘Enzo, we need to finish in the first four’ – what they said was we need to, step by step, arrive and compete with that.
“For sure if you ask me, my dream is to compete with the teams that, at this moment, are dominating English football.”
