Many surprises from Weird MC

Weird MC

Having being on the music scene for long, many people would readily believe there is nothing they don’t know about Shola (Weird MC), the foremost female rapper in the industry. They know she is a tom boy who dumped law for music.

According to her, it was war with her parents on that decisive step; but she stood her ground and went on to the Institute of Music and Technology in England.

In a tweet recently, Weird MC revealed some things about herself which were really surprising to many who were part of the chat.

For a start, she revealed that she is into real estate and took on the name ‘Weird MC’ because she wanted something different; name that will turn heads and keep people talking. She achieved that when she came on the music scene with Allen Avenue and her innovating animated video then.

However, she said there is a clear difference between Shola and Weird MC. “Weird MC is that fire unpredictable brand, timeless, bold and outside the box, while Shola is very shy and guarded. Weird MC is the opposite and care-free energetic.”

She also revealed that she no longer believes in friendship, as it is no longer in her dictionary. Although the movie and television series freak would not say much about this, one cannot but wonder what might have happened to make her strike out friendship.

The rapper believes that talent and skills open doors, while shrewdness keeps one in there. What she missed most about the music industry are the realness and depth of character. But she still singled out Olamide, Davido, Yemi Alade, Praiz, Asa, Nomoreloss, Brymo, Wande Coal and Reminisce as outstanding artistes in the year.

Speaking on her formative years, the rapper revealed that her parents were very strict and protective. “It was also kind of suppressive. I was surrounded by chauvinism,” she said.

She has her mother’s eyes and smile, but took after her father in height and no nonsense character.

Weird MC’s favourite quote is: Know your worth, preserve your value and defend your brand.

Her take on feminism: “I don’t like labels or boxers. I’m pro-advancement for the women folk. I am not a feminist by definition. It has been twisted and abused. It has lost true substance.”

Her fans should be on the look-out for a remix of the timeless single ‘Allen Avenue’ very soon.
