Manchester United releases four players

Manchester United FC has

released four players, with the most notable being goalkeeper Victor Valdés and midfielder Nick Powell. The other two released, George Dorrington and Oliver Rathbone, have never featured for the first time.

It’s certainly a disappointment to see Valdés leave so soon after arriving at United, with the 34-year-old still likely to be a better backup to David de Gea than Sergio Romero. However, his stormy relationship with Louis van Gaal means we can’t help but wonder whether he had the temperament to match his talent, though as a three-time Champions League and six-time La Liga winner, he must be doing something right.

As for Powell, he joined United from Crewe Alexandra as one of the most highly rated young talents around. However, he’s failed to build on a promising loan spell at Wigan Athletic, and his loan with Leicester at the start of last season was terminated prematurely amid rumours that he wasn’t showing the requisite commitment in training. Let’s hope he can find a new club and can quickly rebuild his career.
