Manchester City returned to the top of the English Premier League (EPL) after an easy win over struggling Burnley at Turf Moor.

Liverpools’ victory over Watford earlier on Saturday had knocked the defending champions off the summit for the first time since 4th December, but they responded in impressive style.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 5th minute when Kelvin De Bryne put them ahead after receiving a pass from Raheem Sterling.

The Citizens doubled their advantage in the 25th minute when Raheem Sterling once again found Iker Gundogan who volleyed the ball into the back of the net with his right foot.

By now, Man City were in complete control and could afford to see Sterling, Jack Grealish, and substitute Gabriel Jesus waste excellent chances because Burnley never looked remotely capable of mounting a comeback

Burnley grew into the game in the second half but did not manage a shot on target until after the 75th minute when substitute Jay Rodriguez brought a diving save from Ederson.

The home side remain rooted in the bottom three, while City can head into next Sunday’s top-of-the-table clash with Liverpool knowing a draw will leave them top of the table.
