Man City not top of PL because of Arsenal, Guardiola says

Man City have so far earned 32 points from 13 games, but remained in 2nd position behind Arsenal, despite leapfrogging them twice in 2 weeks

Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola has claimed the only reason his team are not top of the Premier League (PL) table is because North London club, Arsenal have been “exceptional” this season.

The Citizens have so far gathered 32 points from 13 games but remained in the second position behind league leaders, Arsenal, despite leapfrogging them twice in two weeks.  

Guardiola made the comment while speaking to the media after Man City defeated Chelsea 2-0 in the Carabao Cup third round played at the Etihad on Wednesday night.

Algerian winger, Riyad Mahrez and his teammate, Julian Alvarez scored for Man City in the 29th and 35th minutes respectively, as they progressed into the fourth round of the cup competition.

When asked if he was satisfied with his team qualifying in the Champions League and Carabao Cup, Guardiola replied: “We could be top of the league, but Arsenal have been exceptional.

“Someone in my staff told me that we have more points at this same stage in the last four seasons.

“We have been good, but the other team has been better.

“But the main target is not to be far away from the top in the Premier League.”
