Man, 28, allegedly rapes six year old girl in Benue

A Benue man, 28, has been arraigned for allegedly raping a six year old girl.

The rampant cases of rape in Nigeria has led all the 36 state governors to declare it an emergency.  

The man, Terver Awuha, is a motorcyclist based in Makurdi. He was arraigned at the Chief Magistrate Court on June 17, for the offence of rape f a six year old.

Police Sergeant Friday Kanshio who is the prosecutor said the rape incident was first reported at the ‘B’ Division, Makurdi on June 5, 2020 by one Mrs Deborah Omachi of Idye Village, Makurdi.

The prosecutor said the little girl was sent on an errand when the accused forced her into his room to rape her.

The prosecutor argued that the offence is in violation of Section 284 of the Penal Code of Benue state, 2004.

He then urged the court to give him a short adjournment to enable him assemble his witnesses.

The Magistrate,Isaac Ajim, ordered for the accused to be remanded in the state’s Correctional Centre and while adjourning the matter to August 28.
