Mama Africa, a film produced by Norbert Ajaegbu, has been premiered in Lagos.
Shown to the public at the Filmhouse Cinemas in Surulere, Lagos, last Sunday, it was a gathering of people from the Nigerian movie industry and beyond.
Ajaegbu, a renowned filmmaker of international repute, said every plot and characterisation in the drama depicts particular sections of the African society.
Those at the event included the Director-General of the Nigerian Film Video Census Board (NFVCB), Mrs. Patricia Bala, business leaders in the corporate world, the press and Nollywood practitioners.
Ajaegbu, producer and writer of the movie, who is also the Lagos chairman and national spokesperson of the Film and Video Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria (FVPMAN), said Mama Africa is so far his biggest contribution to the intellectual commonwealth of the African cinema.
The destitute, he said, represent the deprived populace of the African society, while Martha’s role played by Tonto Dikeh represent certain civilians in the society who mortgage their conscience to the overwhelming influence of the government, while the military keepers, being the shape-shifting archetypes, depict the dictatorial tendency of a typical military junta.
Distributor of the movie, Metro Classic Pictures, represented by Uwem Jacobs, said: “With the crowd that we saw today and how the theatre was over-flowing, it will be a major relief to all movie-lovers to relive the experience and finally see a movie that is worth both their time and money, plus the reality of Africa told in simple riddles too clear to miss the message,” he said.
